OUR MISSION

The main goal of Hungarian Surf Fest is to unite the Hungarian surfer community at an annual event – which is not only a surf competition but a festival as well. HSF welcomes all surfers regardless of surfing level. In addition, we strive to provide a platform for the upcoming generation of young Hungarian surfers to compete and develop their skills. It’s also our mission to make this event the official Hungarian Surfing Championship, which could serve as a qualification event for the World Surfing Games. Though this is a longer process, we are doing our best to make it happen.

ORGANISERS

Eva Coster Bakró and Zoltán Bakró have been living in the Portuguese coastal town of Costa da Caparica, location of the Hungarian Surf Fest, since 2017. They have been operating their own guesthouse and surfschool (The Magnet Projects) ever since and are a household name within the Hungarian surf community. Every year, they host around 300 aspiring and advanced surfers in their guesthouse.

Along with Anna Barath Liptay and David Liptay they founded the Hungarian Surf Fest. Doroti Zeller, who was already involved with the HSF since the 2nd edition as the social media manager, has joined the core team to support the overall festival organisation and as a representative of the HSF back home in Budapest.

LOCATION

COSTA DA CAPARICA

A lively beach town along the coast of the Atlantic, about a 25 minute car ride from the center of Lisbon and Portugal’s biggest airport. We’re not sure if it’s the oceanside promenade, the breathtaking sunsets or the quality waves that make this surf town so special, but one thing is for sure: it’s one of the most attractive places along the Portuguese coast.

LOCAL TRANSPORTATION

The ocean is a 1-2 minute walk from the competition venue, so it is not necessary to rent a car. On the other hand, if several of you get together and go on a trip or sightseeing, it is possible to rent a cheap car. Uber is another option between Lisbon and Caparica, as an affordable and convenient transport solution. This is also great for airport transfers.

GETTING TO HSF

It is done individually, the easiest way from Hungary is by plane. Wizzair and Ryanair operate flights from Budapest, both will fly on the exact dates of the event (19-26 October). We recommend booking tickets as soon as possible so that you can travel at the most favorable price. It is also possible to arrive earlier and leave later, if you would like the accommodation package, please let us know.

SURF CONTEST

Main organizers of the 2025 Hungarian Surf Fest are The Magnet Projects and Nova Associação Desporto. Additionally, Sósvíz Hullámlovas Sport Alapítvány (SHSA) will assist us in organizing the competition from the Hungarian side. While HSF is not yet officially recognized as the Hungarian Wave Surfing Championship, our goal is for it to achieve this status and serve as a qualifying event for international surfing competitions.

Both registered athletes and independent competitors without club affiliation can participate in the competition. However, we strive to have as many registered athletes as possible compete in the championship.

Scoring System

Further important information about the HSF ranking:
For the 2025 HSF heat draw, the seeding order and heat draw will be based on the results of the last four Hungarian surfing competitions (the 2022, 2023, and 2024 HSF events, and the 2025 Hungasurf Open). However, only each surfer’s two best results from these four events will count toward their ranking position.
